The Dos and Don'ts of Online Dating: Tips and tricks to make the most of your dating app experience.

Updated: Mar 27, 2023

As a single woman in my 30s, I've tried my fair share of online dating apps. It can be exciting and nerve-wracking all at the same time. But after a few hits and misses, I've come up with some dos and don'ts of online dating that have helped me navigate the world of swiping left or right. Here are some tips and tricks to make the most of your dating app experience.

Do: Choose your photos wisely

First impressions are everything, especially in the world of online dating. When choosing your photos, choose pictu

res that show your personality and interests. Avoid using group photos, as it can be hard to tell who you are. And, of course, make sure your photos are recent and accurate.

Don't: Be too picky

It's easy to get caught up in swiping left or right based solely on a person's appearance. But remember, there's more to a person than their looks. Give people a chance, and don't be too quick to dismiss someone just because they don't meet your exact physical preferences.

Do: Keep your bio short and sweet

Your bio is your chance to showcase your personality and give potential matches a glimpse into who you are. But don't go overboard. Keep it short and sweet, highlighting your interests and what you're looking for in a relationship.

Don't: Overshare

While it's important to be honest about who you are, don't overshare personal details on your profile. Keep it light and save the heavy conversations for when you get to know someone better.

Do: Be open-minded

Online dating is all about meeting new people and potentially finding a connection. Be open-minded and willing to try new things. Who knows, you may find yourself surprised by who you end up clicking with.

Don't: Get discouraged

Online dating can be a rollercoaster of emotions, with highs and lows. Don't let the inevitable rejections get you down. Remember, it's not personal and just means that person wasn't the right match for you.

Do: Be safe

While online dating can be fun, it's important to always prioritize your safety. Take precautions like meeting in a public place for the first few dates, letting a friend know where you're going, and trusting your gut if something feels off.

By following these dos and don'ts of online dating, you'll be well on your way to making the most of your dating app experience. Remember, it's all about having fun and meeting new people. Happy swiping!
